Is teeth whitening safe?

Teeth whitening is a very safe procedure if every steep of the treatment is followed correctly. As dental hygienists we have the ability to understand the reasons behind these concerns and have created a detailed medical history questionnaire that will signal any alerts that indicate a potential contraindication to teeth whitening treatment.

I have been told that I have intrinsic tetracycline/fluoride stain. Would I be able to whiten my teeth?

There are two different types of stains, intrinsic and extrinsic stains. Intrinsic stains like tetracycline/fluoride stains are harder to remove because the stain itself is located deep inside the tooth structure. These stains are caused by different factors genetic or excessive intake of fluoride/tetracycline during the tooth development stage (1-13 years of age). Compared to extrinsic or superficial stains like tobacco stain or coffee stain, intrinsic fluoride/tetracycline stains are harder to deal with due to the location and the nature of these stains. This doesn’t mean that we can not treat tetracycline or fluoride stains. Generally speaking it is impossible to determine the degree of whitening especially for clients that have these types of intrinsic stains. Your Teeth Whitening expectations should be made based on the type of stain your teeth have, and this will be determined upon the initial oral assessment from one of our Dental Hygienists. Repetitive whitening sessions might be required to achieve the best results.

Does teeth whitening treatment hurt?

A dental hygienist will monitor you during the entire treatment. We make sure the treatment time is appropriate for your level of sensitivity tolerance. If you experience excessive sensitivity we will have to modify the treatment planning accordingly without jeopardizing your safety. In office laser teeth whitening is a cosmetic procedure where you seat for 45 minutes in a comfortable dental chair not having to worry about opening your mouth or spitting out excessive saliva. It is so comfortable that some of our clients fall a sleep while they are getting their teeth whiter.

Is teeth whitening permanent?

Maintaining the results after the whitening treatment depends on two factors. Your teeth structure and your everyday habits. Following the after treatment instructions provided by our Dental Hygienists and maintaining a good oral hygiene is an essential part in long lasting results. Staining foods, drinks and tobacco usage will stain your teeth gradually over time, that’s why we offer all our new clients the At home teeth whitening kit. Occasional touch ups with this At Home Teeth Whitening kit will make your teeth look as white as they looked after the initial professional teeth whitening treatment

How can i whiten my teeth if i am wearing orthodontic braces?

Most people that wear braces complaint of unpleasant teeth color and want to whiten their teeth to improve their appearance and feel better about themselves. Unfortunately ADA (American Dental Association) does not recommend teeth whitening for people undergoing orthodontic treatment. They also recommend teeth whitening treatment should be considered only after 2 months post orthodontic treatment time.
WHY?
Removing plaque and maintaining a good oral hygiene is a real challenge for orthodontic patients. Braces trap food very easy, which contributes to plaque, stain and poor oral hygiene which makes our enamel vulnerable and weak. Success in teeth whitening treatments require a strong enamel and a good oral hygiene. This is why teeth whitening treatment should be postponed 6 months after the orthodontic treatment, to allow the enamel to re-mineralize and gain its strength by applying good oral hygiene and visiting the dental hygienist every 3 to 6 months.

Am I a good candidate for teeth whitening?

Some researches have shown that clients with specific conditions are not good candidates for Teeth Whitening. Some of the reasons you might not be a good candidate for Teeth Whitening are:

    1. If you are pregnant.
    2. If you are a lactating mother.
    3. If there is tartar “calculus” on the visible part of the tooth that you would like to whiten. (Dental cleaning is advised prior to teeth whitening).
    4. If you have active decay or cavities you need to consider consulting the dentist for possible restoration then get a teeth whitening treatment.
    5. If you are allergic to hydrogen peroxide.
    6. If you are wearing braces you have to wait 3-6 months after your orthodontic treatment is finished.
    7. If you have fillings on the labial side of the targeted teeth for whitening (usually the front teeth ), we will have to assess the location, size and color of your fillings before making an accurate decision.

Teeth whitening, does it work?

We are so confident about our teeth whitening results that we guarantee 2 to 12 shades whiter or a full refund will be issued. This means that if after the treatment we couldn’t achieve at least 2 shades whiter teeth, you are not obligated to make any payment. So far, it has never happened to any of our clients and it is very unlikely to ever happen. Our clients trust us completely, confidence and customer satisfaction is our main goal.

Is teeth whitening harmful to enamel?

Teeth whitening treatment will not cause harm to your enamel. Based on many current researches and ADA reports, there is no scientific evidence to prove otherwise, especially when performed by registered dental professionals. Hydrogen peroxide is the main ingredient in the whitening gel and it is broadly used by dentists and medical doctors as an antimicrobial agent. Whitening gel simply penetrates the enamel structure causing enamel dehydration, removing the intrinsic stain embedded inside the tooth which is otherwise impossible to remove with standard cleaning or polishing treatment. Our trained dental hygienists will do everything possible to ensure that you have a comfortable and pleasant experience.

Am i going to have sensitive teeth after teeth whitening?

The most common side effect reported by less than 5% of our clients after or during the treatment is a tingling feeling or a minor temporary sensitivity which in most cases will disappear within a few hours. We use a combination of different teeth whitening concentration gels to minimize sensitivity as much as possible, and yet achieve maximum whitening results. To minimize sensitivity we insulate the gums so that the whitening gel doesn’t get into contact with the lips or gums. After every Teeth Whitening treatment we use a special gel that contains fluoride, menthol, aloe vera and other healthy ingredients to prevent or reduce sensitivity after the treatment and to strengthen your enamel.
